Now that they had a hazy diagnosis, the doctors could move ahead with the first phase of treatment, intravenous steroids, a form of immunotherapy that suppresses inflammation created by the body’s immune system. A clear plastic bag of Solu-Medrol, an IV steroid, hung beside my bed for three days of intensive therapy. It was administered every six hours on an IV pump. These steroids, called corticosteroids, subdue the inflammation and quiet the immune system, which in turn quells future inflammation.37 As the steroids seeped into my system, they switched off inflammatory chemicals called cytokines. Dr. Najjar approved the highest dosage possible for three days. Then he would convert me to 60 milligrams of the oral steroid prednisone, which would continue, more gently, to quell the inflammation over time. “Actually, Dr. Najjar and I have a bet going.” The handsome, dark-haired doctor regaled me for two full days, interrupting our conversation only to greet well-wishers, who called him by his first name,“Dr. Nedret.” His casual dress reflected confidence and charisma befitting a man who embarks on a journey knowing that it can lead to one of only two endpoints: martyrdom or magnificence. Nedret told me a story of triumph and tragedy, heroism and human weakness, of friendship and love survivingagainst all odds in a climate of anger and vengeance. I am a breast cancer survivor of 31/2 years. I was at a convention in Lexington, KY and came upon a consultant from Louisville, KY with a display of Beijo bags. It wasn’t the convention in which I was participating, but she welcomed me and told me about the breast cancer awareness bag, Pinky Promise. I ended up coming back after I had presented and bought the beautiful bag for my birthday which is in June. My husband says I cant carry it until my birthday and I am really looking forward to it. I frequently wear pink ribbon items so that if people ask me about it I can educate them to have their mammograms and take care of themselves. I, too, am a breast cancer survivor. My sisters gave me this bag 3 years ago for my birthday. Every time I carry it, I get so many comments and begin some wonderful conversations with strangers!!! My bag is now showing wear and tear, so it is time to replace it - I will never go without it!!!

I am a breast cancer survivor of 21 years. I saw this purse on the NBC Channel 4 News today and I fell in love with it. It is perfect for a survivor so when I go to USC Norris Cancer Center now I can show the girls my new bag. I bet they are going to want one too. So now I am going to see about having a party with my family and friends who also survived having breast cancer. But also remember the one’s who I have lost.

I am a Breast Cancer Survivor of 22 yrs. last June. Now retired, I volunteer at the Marcia Ray Breast Center at the Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, CA. I received my Pinky Promise Purse for my Birthday last weekend and carried it to my volunteer job on Tuesday. What excitement it caused by my supervisor, employees and patients who were there for their mammograms.
I plan to carry my new purse all the rest of this month, October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month and far beyond. Thank you for creating this wonderful reminder for the ladies to have their annual mammograms.
I fought the fight along side my mother, a 12 year Breast Cancer survivor. I saw this bag at the New Earth Festival in Atlanta In last year and had to have it. I looked for their booth this year to purchase another for a friend but they were not there. I carry my bag the entire month of October and get a lot of compliments and people wanting to know where I got it from. I even had a gentleman ask if he could just buy mine. I love my Pink Promise hand bag.

I just came home from chemo (19 year survivor and now metastatic BC patient) and a dear friend came over to deliver some pumpkin bread and this beautiful PINKY bag. What a surprise! I have never seen anything like it. I plan to wear it when I wear pink (which I do often) and when I attend events for BC charities that I am involved in. I just love it and will wear it with great pride!
Just received my fabulous PINKY BAG on Thanksgiving - 2011 from my beautiful niece, Kelly Flanagan. I’m a 5-year breast cancer survivor. Will go everywhere with this lovely purse and hope to strike up conversations with other women - to either remind them to get their yearly mammogram, or those who are currently going through cancer treatments to have HOPE - there is life after cancer. my son and daughter-in-law, who is on the Susan G. Komen board. I am a two time breast cancer survivor, 31yrs. and 13yrs. It is an awesom Pinky Bag, I love it, and I appreciate them for all they do. I first saw the bag at last years, 2010, Breast Cancer Luncheon in Kansas City. It was definetly not the only Beijo that I fell in love with! I shall carry this bag with pride!

I received this pinky promise purse for my birthday, over a year ago, from my daughter and son-in-law. I am a six year Breast Cancer Survivor. People stop me all the time and ask me where I got it. I love the pinky promise bag. I saw one while sitting with my friend while she was having Chemo. She first had breast cancer and is now fighting liver cancer. I am also a 2 1/2 year breast cancer survivor. The bag is being used as a raffel item to benefit the Relay for Life Cancer fund raiser. I am asking for one for Mother’s Day. That is if I don’t win the raffel. LOL.

I am a 7-year breast cancer survivor and my mother died from bc in 2008 at the age of 59. I purchased this handbag at the Texas Conference for women in Oct 2011 and I have had numerous complements. Such a conversation piece. I love it! I’ll probably buy another one and get some as gifts! I have a breast cancer marketing company called Pink Vision. Maybe I’ll host a fundraiser with the bags.
I just got this bag in my hands tonight at work. I work at a very popular bar in FL. We actually do ALOT of cancer benefits every year. I was working about 5 weeks ago and seen this bag with a customer at the bar. I immediately stopped in my tracks and asked her where I could get one for my Mother. My Mother is a 7 time, 2 type (skin/breast) cancer survivor and has been clean for almost a year now. I cannot wait to give her this bag tomorrow. It is going to completely make her day/year. I Love and Need this bag! I finished my treatment in Oct. 2011 and found it in Oct. 2008. No one has really explained the how many years you have been a survior so I really do not know how long I have been one. But one day I will be able to get this bag. Hopefully sometime in the near future. Great Job Ladies keep up the good work!!!
I won this handbag in a raffle at a regional meeting for professionals in my field. One ticket…and it was the lucky one! I am going to donate to our University Women’s Commission to raffle off this spring to earn money for scholarships for women. It’s beautiful!!!
congrats to all you survivors out there! my mom is a 6 year survivor and my younger sister was a 3 year survivor, who is now battling bone cancer through the breast cancer. you ladies are AMAZING!! i do everything i can to help my sister in her fight, we have sales of cancer awareness things at the restuarant i manage. anything i can do to help make a difference,i’ll do. I love love my pinky bag I am a lover not a fighter BUT i kicked breast ca in the butt this past year. My big boss gave me the bag yesterday and said she was proud of me and she waited till it was all over. It was a rough 10th months.
